ABOUT SULLY

1. Early Life & Foundation

Sulayman “Sully” Badjie’s journey is one shaped by resilience, determination, and a deep sense of purpose.

Originally from Gambia, he discovered boxing at a young age—not just as a sport, but as a way to rise above challenges and build a better future.

With big dreams and limited resources, he came to Canada, facing significant hardships early on as he navigated an unfamiliar life with very little.

2. Turning Point & Growth

During one of the most difficult periods of his life, a local boxing gym became a turning point. The owner recognized Sully’s dedication and gave him a place to stay, along with the opportunity to train and grow.

That experience changed everything. Boxing became more than physical—it became structure, discipline, and stability. Through the gym, Sully found community, purpose, and the foundation to rebuild his life.

He worked his way toward stability, eventually securing full-time employment while staying committed to fitness and personal growth. A major chapter unfolded when he moved to Iqaluit, where he gained new perspective on challenges like isolation, mental health, and limited opportunities. There, alongside his wife, he started a youth boxing program that quickly became a success. The program continues today, run by staff trained by Sully himself.

3. Today & Mission
